Objective: Effective
Business Writing will strengthen the writing and proofreading
skills
of professionals who want
to create documents that grab the reader’s attention
and communicate clearly and concisely.
Target Audience: All individuals who must communicate in
writing and create a positive impression while clearly conveying
their message.
Instructor: Mickee
Carter has over 18 years experience in training and development,
and specializes in three areas:
business writing, career management, and personal development.
She also writes, edits, and proofreads articles, newsletters,
and manuals. She has a MS degree in Organization Development,
and a BA degree in English Literature. She has held management
positions at Macy’s, Chemical Bank, and most recently
a corporate position as an education specialist at Hewlett-Packard.
Her clients have appreciated her high energy level and subject
knowledge.

Focus:
Use style guidelines and The Flesch-Kincaid Reading Scale
to improve readability of
written documents.
Follow the main guidelines of grammar, punctuation, and
word usage to create clearer
and more correct written documents.
Use e-mail tips and techniques to write messages that are
easy to read and to the point.
Develop a writing guide using a Topic Outline or Brainstorming
Plan.
Organize information into straightforward and concise sentences
and paragraphs.

What you write is a permanent record of your thoughts on
paper. So, be careful of the image you leave in the mind
of your reader. Effective business writing begins with the
creation of clear, concise, and accurate documents.
Business professionals may not need to know every writing
principle to do their jobs well, but they do need the basics.
This program takes participants through exercises and activities
to strengthen their writing skills in:
- organizing ideas for impact
- improving clarity and accuracy, and
- reducing writing time
